Parent Roster
Bardon Scouts is run by volunteers, so every family is asked to help. Through the parent roster, each family helps at one Scout meeting per term, and also helps with the group’s fundraising during the year.
Why We Have a Parent Roster
Extra adults keep supervision ratios where they need to be, so every Scout can join in safely. They also let leaders run more activity stations and give Scouts more individual attention. Sharing the load means no single volunteer is overburdened, and you get to see what your child is learning and meet other families.
What You’ll Do on the Night
As the roster parent, you’ll:
- help set up the activity
- supervise Scouts during the meeting
- hold the sign-in sheet and help parents complete it
- help clean up at the end
- generally help the leaders run the night
You don’t need any Scouting experience.
At fundraising events, you might help set up, run a stall, handle sales, or help clean up.
The Roster
Each term, a draft roster is sent to parents. You’ll find it as a pinned post in your section’s parent WhatsApp chat.
Parents organise the roster, not the Section Leader. If your date doesn’t suit, post in the parent chat to find another parent to swap with.
Fundraising
Fundraising helps pay for our programs, equipment and the Den, and keeps costs down for every family. We need the help of all families. Examples include the Mango Fundraiser (October to December), stalls at community events, working bees, and special events.
Enjoy Helping at the Meetings?
One meeting a term is the minimum. If you’d like to help more often, consider becoming an Adult Supporter, who helps at at least 50% of meetings, or see our other volunteering opportunities, including becoming a leader or joining the committee. You can also meet our leaders.
For questions about the roster, speak to your Section Leader or contact us.
