KnightMoves
KnightMoves is Brisbane North Region’s overnight navigation event for Scouts and Venturers. Patrols navigate through the bush at night with map and compass, finding 25 route markers and completing challenges at themed activity bases to earn points. Around 250 Scouts and Venturers from across the region take part each year.
Event Details
When: Late July or early August (annually) Duration: Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning Where: A Scouts Queensland campsite, changing each year (recent years: Karingal 2025, Murrenbong 2024, Tyamolum 2023) Who: Scouts and Venturers
How It Works
Patrols arrive on Saturday afternoon, set up camp and receive a themed instruction booklet. They set off in the evening and navigate overnight, decoding the route markers and completing activity bases with skills such as first aid, knots and pioneering. On Sunday morning they return to camp for breakfast and a closing ceremony, with awards for navigation and activity base scores.
Scouts and Venturers need basic map and compass skills and the fitness to hike several kilometres at night with a pack. Patrols bring their own food for Saturday dinner, snacks and Sunday breakfast. Your Section Leader will give you a packing list and travel details; Bardon Scouts usually travels to the campsite together.
Cost and Registration
Brisbane North Region sets the registration fee each year. Your Section Leader registers Bardon’s patrols and will tell you the cost when registration opens, usually several months before the event. Places are limited.
Adult volunteers help run checkpoints and activity bases. If you’d like to help, speak to your Section Leader.
