Annual Events
Bardon Scouts takes part in community events and Scout activities throughout the year. Our own fundraisers, such as the Mango Fundraiser and Containers for Change, are under Help Us!.
ANZAC Day March
When: 25 April (annually) Who: Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers
Each ANZAC Day, Bardon Scouts proudly marches in the commemorative service at the Ithaca War Memorial in Paddington. This important tradition honours the service and sacrifice of Australian servicemen and women. All sections participate together in this meaningful community event, marching at 8:15am followed by the service from 8:30-9:00am.

Cuboree
When: Every 2-3 years (next date to be announced) Who: Cubs
Cuboree is Queensland’s five-day state camp for Cubs, held at Baden-Powell Park in Samford. Over 800 Cubs from across the state camp together, and for many it’s their first long stay away from home.
Clean Up Australia Day
When: First Sunday in March (annually) Who: Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, and their families
Each March, all sections spend a morning collecting rubbish from parks, streets and creek banks around Bardon as part of the national Clean Up Australia Day.

Annual Report Presentation

Our annual general meeting. Hear reports from each section, the committee and the Treasurer, and meet the committee for the year ahead.

Bardon Mayfair
When: June (annually) Who: Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers
The Bardon State School Mayfair is the school’s main fundraiser. Held each June, it brings together thousands of families for a day of markets, entertainment, food, and fun. Bardon Scouts runs an information stall showcasing our programs and connecting with local families.

KnightMoves
When: Late July or early August (annually) Who: Scouts and Venturers
KnightMoves is Brisbane North Region’s overnight navigation event. Patrols navigate through the bush at night with map and compass, finding 25 route markers and completing activity bases to earn points.

Operation NightHawk
When: August (second full weekend) Who: Scouts only
Operation NightHawk is an overnight Scout hike held annually on the Darling Downs. It attracts around 1,200 Scouts from across Queensland and Northern NSW for a challenging night-time bush hike featuring navigation, skill bases, and leadership challenges.

Skillorama
When: September (annually) Who: Joeys and Cubs
A day of activity bases at Redcliffe Showgrounds, built and run by older Scouts, Venturers and Rovers. Up to 1,300 Joeys and Cubs take part each year.
Fair on the Green
When: August (annually) Who: Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers
Milton State School’s Fair on the Green is an annual community fundraising event held at Gregory Park in Milton. This family-friendly fair features rides, stalls, live entertainment, food trucks, and an outdoor movie screening. Bardon Scouts participates to connect with the local community and share what Scouting offers.

Pizza and Paddle
When: Friday nights (various dates throughout the year) Who: Scouts, Venturers and Rovers
A Friday night of canoeing at dusk followed by pizza, at Brownsea Water Activities Centre, from 6:45pm to 10:00pm.

Rock Climbing
When: Once or twice per year (dates announced by Section Leaders) Who: Usually all sections (confirmed for each session)
Indoor rock climbing at Rocksports in Fortitude Valley. No experience needed, and all equipment is provided.

District Camps
When: Throughout the year (varies by section) Who: Joeys, Cubs, Scouts
Weekend camps shared with the other groups in our district (Oakleigh, The Gap and St Johns Wood). Each section has its own camps at Scout campsites around South East Queensland.

District Swimming
When: Annually (date announced by district) Who: Cubs
A swimming carnival for Cubs from the four groups in our district. Cubs swim individual races and relays for Bardon, with events for every level of swimmer.

Fishing
When: Throughout the year (dates to be announced) Who: Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers - all sections
Fishing is a year-round activity open to every section. More details, including locations and what to bring, are coming soon.
Group Camp
When: October (annually) Who: Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers - all sections, plus adult helpers
Group Camp is two nights away with the whole of Bardon Scouts. Every section camps together in tents, with pioneering, cooking and swimming on the program. Adult helpers with a valid blue card are welcome.
Australian Jamboree 2028 (AJ2028)
When: 29 December 2027 to 7 January 2028 Who: Scouts and Venturers
The 27th Australian Jamboree: ten days in Elmore, Victoria, with more than 10,000 Scouts from across Australia. Applications haven’t opened yet; register your interest with the Queensland contingent to hear when they do.
Overnight Hikes
When: Usually between April and September (dates announced by Section Leaders) Who: Scouts and Venturers
Scouts and Venturers hike over two or more days with full packs, camping overnight between locations on walks like the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk.

Air Activities (proposed)

Bardon Scouts plans to run an air activities event through the Scouts Queensland Air Activities program. It hasn’t been confirmed yet.
