District Swimming
District Swimming is a swimming carnival for Cubs from the four groups in our district: Bardon, Oakleigh, The Gap and St Johns Wood. Cubs swim individual races and relays for their group, with ribbons or certificates for placings.
Event Details
When: Once a year (the date is set by the district) Duration: Half a day or a full day Where: A local swimming pool, confirmed before the event Who: Cubs
On the Day
Cubs check in, warm up, and then swim in their chosen events. These usually include freestyle and backstroke, and sometimes breaststroke, over widths for newer swimmers and 25 or 50 metre lengths for stronger ones, plus relays of four. Races are grouped by age, set by the district. Cubs need to be able to swim on their own, but they don’t need to be fast: there are events for every level, and lifeguards are on duty.
Bring swimmers, a towel, goggles if your Cub uses them, warm dry clothes, a water bottle and food. Families are welcome to watch. Your Cub Leader will confirm the venue, times and whether Bardon Cubs travel together.
Cost and Registration
There’s usually an entry fee to cover pool hire. Your Cub Leader will tell you the cost when registration opens, and your Cub chooses their events when registering.
Volunteers are needed on the day for timekeeping and marshalling. If you can help, speak to your Cub Leader.
