Code of Conduct

Bardon Scouts is built on a foundation of respect, responsibility, and community. Our Code of Conduct helps ensure a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment for all members, families, and volunteers.

For Parents and Adults

Respect and Courtesy

  • Treat all Scouts, parents, leaders, and volunteers with respect and courtesy
  • Model positive behaviour and language for young people
  • Support leaders in maintaining discipline and program standards
  • Respect the decisions and guidance of Scout Leaders

Attendance and Communication

  • Sign In and Out - Always sign your child in and out at every meeting and event
  • Notify your Section Leader if your child will be absent from a meeting or event
  • Respond to RSVPs - Reply to Consent2go permission requests promptly, even if your child won’t be attending
  • Inform leaders of any changes to your child’s medical information or emergency contacts

Parent Roster Commitment

  • Parent Roster - Fulfil your commitment to assist with one meeting per term
  • Support fundraising activities and group events
  • Coordinate with other parents if you cannot make your scheduled roster duty

Property and Facilities

  • Respect the Scout Den and all equipment
  • Supervise your children before and after meetings to prevent damage to property
  • Leave all areas clean and tidy

Privacy and Safety

  • No Tracking Devices - Do not use AirTags or other tracking devices on your child during Scout activities. Scouts are supervised by Leaders, and tracking devices compromise the privacy of other Scouts and families
  • Respect the privacy of other families and Scouts
  • Follow all safety guidelines and instructions from Leaders

Language and Behaviour

  • Use appropriate language at all times - no swearing or offensive language
  • Address any concerns or issues privately with Section Leaders or Group Leaders, not in front of Scouts
  • Support a positive, inclusive environment for all

Phone Use

  • No phone use during Scout meetings - Parents attending roster duty or as Adult Supporters should not use phones before, during, or after meetings unless for emergencies. See our Phone Use policy for details.

For Scouts

The Scout Promise and Law

As Scouts, you have made a promise to do your best. Living our Code of Conduct is part of keeping that promise.

Respect for Everyone

  • Treat all Scouts, leaders, and parents with respect and kindness
  • Listen when leaders or other Scouts are speaking
  • Include everyone in activities - leave no one out
  • Respect different backgrounds, abilities, and opinions

Respect for Property

  • Take care of the Scout Den, equipment, and gear
  • Use equipment properly and safely
  • Clean up after activities and leave areas tidy
  • Report any damage to leaders immediately

Language and Behaviour

  • Use appropriate language - no swearing or offensive words
  • Follow the Scout Law in your words and actions
  • Help create a positive environment for everyone

Attendance and Participation

  • Attend meetings regularly and on time
  • Let your parents know if you’ll be absent so they can inform leaders
  • Participate actively in activities and challenges
  • Do your best in everything you try

Safety

  • Follow all safety instructions from leaders
  • Stay with your patrol or group during activities
  • Report any injuries or problems to leaders immediately
  • Look out for the safety of yourself and others

Phone Use

  • No phones during Scout meetings - Phones should not be used before, during, or after meetings. See our Phone Use policy for full details.
  • Emergency contact is available through leaders if needed

Consequences of Code Violations

Our Code of Conduct exists to keep everyone safe and ensure a positive experience for all. Violations of this code may result in:

  • Discussion with the Scout and parents
  • Temporary suspension from activities
  • In serious or repeated cases, removal from the Scout Group

We prefer to work with families to address concerns positively and help Scouts learn from mistakes.

Youth Protection

Bardon Scouts is committed to providing a safe environment for all young people. All leaders and volunteers:

  • Hold current Queensland Blue Cards (Working with Children Check)
  • Complete youth protection training
  • Follow Scouts Queensland child safety standards
  • Maintain appropriate supervision ratios at all activities
