Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia Day

Each year Bardon Scouts joins Clean Up Australia Day, the national community clean-up started by Ian Kiernan AO in 1990. All sections spend the morning collecting rubbish from parks, streets and creek banks around Bardon, and families are welcome to join in.

Event Details

When: First Sunday in March (next: Sunday 7 March 2027) Duration: Usually 2-4 hours, starting between 9:00am and 10:00am Where: Around Bardon (the meeting place is announced by leaders) Who: Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, and their families

On the Day

We meet in Scout uniform for a safety briefing, then each section is given an area to clean. Bags, gloves and litter pickers are provided. Scouts sort recyclables from general waste and record what they collect for Clean Up Australia. Nobody picks up glass, syringes, chemicals or other dangerous items: leaders are told about them instead.

Bring a hat, sunscreen, a water bottle and closed-toe shoes. Your own work gloves are welcome. The event usually goes ahead in light rain, so check with your Section Leader if the weather looks bad.

Cost and Registration

It’s free. Sign up through your Section Leader, who will confirm the start time and meeting place before the day.
